CHARACTER INFORMATION
➤ CHARACTER NAME: Tohru Mutou
➤ SERIES: Shiki
➤ CHARACTER AGE: 18
➤ REFERENCE: history here
➤ CANON POINT: Pre-death; episode 5
➤ SEXUALITY: He obviously has an attraction to women. He is planning on taking Ritsuko out on a date/drive the day he is bitten by Megumi. Whether, or not, he is only attracted to women is debatable.
➤ PERSONALITY: Tohru is genuinely a nice guy. He does everything he can to help others, and he's very persistent with it. Words to describe him are caring, outgoing, gentle, and inherently good.
Basically, this is the kind of guy who, if he sees someone in need of assistance, he isn't going to hesitate at all to help them. Even if they attempt to turn it down, he's willing to go out of his way to shove his kindness on them.
An example of this, is when Natsuno Yuuki/Koide (his soon-to-be VERY best friend, afterwards) was walking past his house with a flat tire on his bicycle. Tohru greeted him, basically welcoming him to the village. Then, Tohru saw the flat and offered to fix it--an offer immediately shot down. Tohru grabbed the back wheel of the tire and completely insisted, to which Natsuno finally caved. He immediately insisted Natsuno come back anytime.
So, obviously, he doesn't care if he knows the person--he simply wishes to ensure that everyone is okay. He doesn't consider his acts of kindness to be a big deal, at all. He uses phrases like “'Swhat neighbors are for” to brush off someone unwilling to accept his help.
Another example of his pushy nature, is his referring to Natsuno as Natsuno, even though the guy wishes to be called either 'Yuuki' or 'Koide'. Tohru states that those names are too confusing for him. When Natsuno refuses to tell Tohru his first name, Tohru simply goes and asks Natsuno's father. The next time Tohru sees him, he grins and simply says 'Natsuno', making it known that he found out what his name was. No matter how many times Natsuno demands he isn't called by that name, Tohru ignores it completely—acting almost as though he never heard it.
As a branch-off of the caring nature, he's very open, as well. As seen in the previous example, he definitely isn't shy. He's quick to introduce himself to, literally, anyone. In his town, he has many friends. It's stated numerous times that he is "liked by everyone", because of his outgoing nature. To emphasize this point, he's even capable of being friendly with a guy who could be called selfish, attention-seeking, and rude (i.e. Masao Murasako).
He adores Natsuno, completely. Even when Masao (who is someone Tohru has known longer) attempts to fight with Natsuno, Tohru instantly jumps to defend the latter. He considers him to be a best friend, in spite of their not knowing each other all that long. He even lets Natsuno get away with sleeping in his bed—though, he finally just got Natsuno his own mattress and told him that he could sleep in his room “any time”.
His gentle personality would never allow him to ever be mean and/or rude; because, really, he never wants to hurt anyone. For instance, later on, after he does become a shiki, he falls to pieces over being forced to kill Natsuno--even though it was to save his family from being killed, as per a threat by Tatsumi. It is literally devastating; and, at first, he's almost unable to do it--instead, opting to do it completely last minute, and only after Natsuno is about to be killed by Megumi Shimizu.
Even though he knows it could never make up for what he did, he leaves a flower by Natsuno's window pretty much every night after killing him. Afterward, he slowly molds into a self-loathing, depressed, guilt-ridden, bitter, and cynical guy, in the future, over being forced to kill in order to survive--which shows he does have it in him, to be that sort of person.
All-in-all though, he's genuinely a good person. He'd be the last to judge anyone for anything; and (as a human), he's never going to hurt anyone (unless it's to protect someone he genuinely cares about, that is).
➤ POWERS: Unless video games, knowledge of random facts about Sotoba Village, or being incrediblyor overly helpful counts—none whatsoever.
➤ SUITABILITY: All in all, he is a relatively calm guy. He's not being threatened into killing anyone in this place, so he likely will not have a nervous breakdown. Yes, he will freak out; but, it will not be the same as it is in back in his world (or, more specifically, how it was for him after having to kill Natsuno). His family not being here will also help with his nerves, somewhat--basically, it will help him to not have to worry about protecting them. If Natsuno is here, that will also be comforting to him.
He will probably attempt to resist engaging in any form of sexual acts, simply for the sake of 'this isn't right—this isn't how it's supposed to happen'. If he learns about the chip, he will probably want the thing out—but he shouldn't go so far as to dig it out.
Unfortunately, for him, he is a very easy person to 'break in'. He will likely not last very long as far as fighting against this place goes. This is the main reason he well-suited for a place such as this.
